Third annual Craft Beer Rising Festival to be greatest yet

by OSKAR FALKENBERG

Set to take place during the very first edition of London Beer Week, the craft beer festival runs from 19-22 February at The Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane.

Although local London microbreweries are in vast majority, there’s a stronger international presence this year with contributors from New Zealand, USA and many European countries.

“I’m most excited about the increased capacity”, said Craft Beer Rising’s event manager Simon Dehany. “We’ve got a great New Zealand contingent of five breweries joining us. We also have improved talks, one on the rise of mead and one with lager brewing legend Karl Trojan from Schremser.”

Alongside returning breweries like Beavertown, Duvel and Camden Town, newcomers such as Mondo Brewery, Fourpure and Portobello Brewing will add to the diversity of the line-up.

The third annual Craft Beer Rising festival looks to outshine previous editions, with more than 350 beer types from over 130 breweries.

In addition to the wide selection of drinks, craft beer enthusiasts can also look forward to numerous stands for street food, with carefully selected meals and snacks to pair and match with the beverages. A handful of London musicians will provide the soundtrack of the festival, with Soul II Soul founder Jazzie B headlining the music stage this year.

The ticket price has gone up from last years’ £15 to £17 but includes a £5 beer token, programme and a choice of glassware. The faces behind the brews will also be available at their respective stands to discuss their beers.

For the first time, London Beer Week will be running simultaneously throughout the entire week. It will join London Cocktail Week and London Wine Week to become the third festival launched by Drink Up London.

£10 wristbands can be bought online, wearing one gives discounts all week long on beers and boilermakers at more than 100 handpicked bars and pubs across the capital.
